Beaver Habitats

We had a wonderful time working with Winnipeg sculptor, David Perrett. We used plasticine to sculpt beavers.  We chose to sculpt beavers because we had explored  beaver habitats and learned how beavers are important creatures in creating habitats for other wildlife and can be instrumental in returning water to habitats where water has been lost.  We watched two documentaries, The Beaver Whisperers, presented by the nature of things, as well as National Geographic's, The Dam Beaver. Both of these documentaries can be found online and we highly recommend them. We also chose to sculpt beavers because they are one of the Canadian symbols we were learning about in social studies.  When we were done sculpting we created habitats for our beavers. David taught us how to mix colours, shape and form plasticine, and how to attach pieces together to make it look like one solid sculpture.
